Today we discuss one of our favorite hobbies…reading! Not only has this manifested in a book club for our friend group, our love for reading makes it fun to reflect on our past reading choices (& what secret desires we wanted to fulfill with them), the different approaches to reading we’ve experienced (plot vs. prose?), and the thoughts we have about the impact of representation in some of our favorite books from childhood.Support the Show.Follow us on social media @eatyourcrustpod

  • Hi.

  • Welcome back to eat your crust podcast.

  • I'm Jisoo.

  • And I'm Crystal.

  • So today we have a fun little topic for you guys, and it's actually about one of our hobbies.

  • Crystal and I are part of a small little book club within the friend group, and we also, I think, do a decent amount of reading outside of the book club at as well.

  • I'm not gonna lie.

  • It's a little on and off for both of us sometimes, I think.

  • But we still try to make it happen.

  • With reading being such a big part of our lives, sometimes we thought it would be cool to do an episode about it.

  • You're absolutely right.

  • It is a little on and off.

  • You know, we allegedly read a lot on our own time, but let's just kind of start with, when did you first fall in love with reading?

  • So when I look back at my childhood, I think I have a lot of real memories and then memories that were kind of fabricated or imagined after people tell me stories of what happened.

  • I have a close family friend.

  • Her name is Eileen, and she used to always tell me that when we went over to her house, I would make her read me this book.

  • I might have shared this story on the podcast before, but it was basically called who pooped on my head?

  • And she was like, I thought you were so annoying because you were just like this five year old that came over and always made me read picture books to you, and I just hated that you wanted me to read it over and over.

  • Oh, my God.

  • And I've heard different variations of this story with different people in my life.
