  • Hi.

  • Welcome back to eat your crust podcast.

  • I'm Crystal.

  • And I'm Jisoo.

  • Today we wanted to talk about careers because we haven't touched on that in a little bit.

  • And also, it's just past the time of, like, performance reviews, at least on our calendars.

  • When I had my performance review this year, it was in, like, February, and now it's like the debriefing time of seeing and discussing those performance reviews and thinking about next steps.

  • So we thought it might be appropriate to talk about that and our experiences in dealing with performance reviews and just reviews in general in our professional lives.

  • Yeah.

  • And I think especially with Crystal and I being a little bit earlier in our careers, we can't say that our experience with performance reviews are going to be the same as everyone else's.

  • But I do think it's kind of interesting to see how other people navigate through this craziness of performance reviews and feedback.

  • And also what I think is interesting is a lot of the times, the way you kind of go through these steps depends heavily on your manager as well.

  • And you tend to learn and soak up so much from your manager.

  • So I would love to hear, Crystal, if you have any tips or, I guess, attitudes or approaches towards performance reviews that you've picked up from your manager.

  • Sure.

  • So I was a contractor for the past two years, so I actually never really had to deal with performance reviews until recently.

  • But I really do like the approach that me and my current manager take with it.

  • It's basically like being super transparent, and nothing on your performance review should be a surprise.

  • We just encourage a lot of communication between each other, whether that's conveying what projects I'm working on, what has been difficult, what has not been difficult.

  • I think it's also totally okay to tell your manager, like, oh, I'm struggling with this aspect of my job or something like that.
