  • Hi.

  • Welcome back to eat your crisp podcast.

  • I'm Jisoo.

  • And I'm Crystal.

  • Before we get into the topic this week, I have another Gen Z word to share, although this one, I guess it's possibly not Gen Z.

  • It's just a word that's been used a lot, and I think Gen Z also uses it a lot.

  • So the word is deadass.

  • What's interesting is I actually started watching Modern Family recently, and I've been, like, just binging it.

  • And in the first season, which was released in 2009, one of the kids in the show, she says, deadass.

  • Whoa.

  • Yeah.

  • She says it, like, the way that we use it now.

  • And I thought that was, like, pretty crazy, because if it was released in 2009, that means they must have filmed it.

  • Either 2009, maybe even in 2008.

  • So that just means that Deadass has been used for a really long time.

  • So I looked it up, and there's actually an entry of deadass on dictionary.com.

  • and it says that deadass surfaced in New York City slang in the late nineties to two thousands.

  • And it made its urban dictionary debut as early as 2003, defined as completely and honestly serious.

  • This is, like, mind boggling to me because maybe I was just out of the loop, but I swear I didn't really start hearing or using this word until I want to say when we were in college.

  • So maybe early as 2014?
