Welcome to the LSE Events Podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.
We're coming on this day when there's a tube strike and there was a fire alarm,
so we just thought nobody was going to continue to have the patience this day,
so we're really grateful that you're making it here, as well as to our online audience, who Martin will be attending to.
I'm Swati Thingra.
I'm an Associate Professor at the Center for Economic Performance in the Department of Economics,
and I'm also an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England.
So today we have this great event.
I don't think we could come up with a more timely event, a book launch.
And we're going to talk about how to win a trade war
with, for those, how many of you actually know Chad and Soumaya from their podcast?
Oh, so there are a few fans in here,
and the rest are new people who you will be getting as fans soon.
So just to say, in 2016, Chad and Soumaya launched Trade Talks, the podcast,
which is one of the most authoritative places to get everything you need to know about trade,
and not based on the rhetoric, but on actual academic work as well as more policy-focused research.
So what we're going to talk about is their new book, How to Win a Trade War.
And just to let you know, Chad has worked in a couple of White House administrations,
both on the Council for Economic Advisors as well as the Chief Economist of the Department of State.
