Hello, I'm Lauren Laverne and this is the Desert Island Discs podcast
from BBC Radio 4. Every week I ask my guests to choose the eight tracks, book and luxury,
that they'd want to take with them if they were cast away to a desert island.
For rights reasons, the music's shorter than on the original broadcast,
but you can find a version with longer music tracks on BBC Sounds.
Listeners will also get access to episodes 28 days earlier than everyone else.
I hope you enjoy listening.
My castaway this week is the businesswoman Emma Greed.
Until recently, she was the hidden powerhouse behind some of fashion's biggest success stories,
from Natalie Portman as the face of Dior to the brands Skims and Good American,
which she launched with the Kardashian sisters, Kim and Khloe, respectively.
Last year, Forbes included her on their list of America's richest self-made women,
putting her worth at a cool $405 million.
Her fashion fairytale began in humble circumstances.
She grew up in Plasto, East London, the eldest of four children in a single-parent family.
She got her first job at 12 and later dropped
out of the London College of Fashion to pursue a hustle of her own.
By her mid-twenties, she'd founded her first company.
Lately, her success has led her out of the boardroom and into the spotlight,
with guest appearances on US show Shark Tank and the British equivalent Dragon's Den.
