Hello and welcome to Super Great Kids Stories.
Wise tales from storytellers around the world, which will make you laugh and sometimes cry.
Recommended for ages 5 to 105.
I'm Kim and I love stories.
Today we have a Scottish traveller trickster tale, The Catfishers, told by Cara Silversmith.
How are you, Super Great Kids?
I'm very happy because we've had some sunny weather here in the UK, so I've been out exploring on my bicycle.
And another reason to be cheerful is that in about a week's time,
I'm going sailing around the Shetland Islands in the far north of Scotland.
I wonder if I'll see any selkies.
So it seems right that today we have a story from Scotland.
It's a traveller's story.
A traveller is someone who spends a lot of time travelling from place to place and stopping here
and there to work before moving on again.
Now, just before we get to our tale, I have a little question for you while we have a quick word with the grown-ups.
I wonder if you can think of your favourite kind of story and why.
It might be a trickster tale or a quest tale or a how and why tale or a fairy tale or a scary tale.
Have a think.
Ready?
Off you go.
