Russian missiles hammered several parts of Ukraine's capital, Kiev, in a deadly strike before dawn today.
At least nine civilians were killed and more than 30 wounded.
As NPR's Greg Myrie reports, the attack comes as President Trump appeared
to walk back and offer to help Ukraine with its air defenses.
Russian ballistic missiles struck five separate parts of Kiev as explosions rang out through the night.
The attack set off multiple fires and emergency teams rescued dozens of residents from burning
and damaged department buildings.
Russia has stepped up its airstrikes in recent months
to exploit Ukrainian shortages of air defenses against ballistic missiles.
Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, met President Trump on Tuesday and said the U.S.
