It's been a day of, it feels, fairly frantic back and forth in the effort to nail down a peace deal between
the US and Iran, one that President Trump had confidently asserted would be signed today.
And yet in the middle of the day,
in Middle East time came the news that the Israeli military had launched a strike on Beirut.
A strike, the IDF claimed, which hit a Hezbollah command centre
and was a reprisal for the Iran-backed Lebanese militia firing into Israel.
Iran threatened to retaliate, and President Trump let it be known that he was pretty furious.
