So my name is Ashfaat Al-Fan.
I'm the Director of the Sustainability Regulation Observatory here at LSE.
It's part of the new global school of sustainability,
and in particular, it's a theme on mobilizing law of politics and governance.
So the areas that we are focusing on are all areas that are being picked on today.
What is the most constructive role for sustainability regulation?
What are the deeper roots of the green backlash?
And how can society and politics respond to it?
What is the role of litigation as a tool of sustainability governance?
And how can novel forms of international cooperation reinforce global sustainability governance?
So it's interdisciplinary, looking across law, politics, and many other areas.
2005 was a bleak year under any account.
President Trump rolled back sustainability investments in the United States
at the federal level and having a knock-on effect in many states.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was unable to agree,
the negotiations they were unable to agree on concrete measures to phase out fossil fuels.
