单集文稿 ...

  • A to z.

  • Welcome to A to Z English podcast, where today we're going to talk about some grammar, but more specifically than grammar, it's actually pronunciation and grammar a little bit combined here.

  • And so Jack, what's the idea for today with this grammar pronunciation point?

  • Yeah.

  • So in English, as you know, when we use the past tense, we often add ed to the end of the word or to the end of the verb or regular verbs.

  • For normal verbs, we just add the ed.

  • That's right.

  • There are a lot of irregular verbs in English, but we'll leave that for another podcast.

  • So today we're going to focus on regular past tense verbs.

  • And so when we have the regular past tense ed added to the verb, there are actually three different pronunciations.

  • And so.

  • Yeah, which is confusing.

  • English has a lot of very confusing pronunciation things.

  • Yeah.

  • As a matter of fact, sometimes some ed past tense verbs don't even have a d sound.

  • And so that's, English is not a phonetic language.

  • It really isn't.

  • It makes it very difficult for learners to know how to read and how to pronounce things.

  • Exactly.

  • So I thought we could start with the, the first one sound.
