Hey, everybody, this is Jack from the A to Z English podcast.
And I'm doing a special episode of Jack Chats today.
I'm not going to read any WhatsApp chats, and I'm not going to read any listener emails.
Right now.
I'm actually going to read an article that I found that I think is if you follow along with the information in the article, I think it's going to help you understand a little bit about second language learning.
And the views of this particular researcher and teacher are a little bit controversial.
So not everyone agrees with what he writes and what he teaches, but I think he makes a lot of really good points.
And so today I'm going to read an article about an educator named Steven Krashen.
And Stephen Krashen, I believe, is a professor at a university in California.
I think.
I apologize.
I'll have to look that up, but I'm not sure exactly where.
Oh, the University of Southern California.
That's right, USC.
And I'm just going to read some parts of the article, and then I'm going to share my opinions about it.
And the purpose of this is to, I want to try to give you less anxiety as second, as english learners.
And I think that he does a really nice job of explaining how to reduce your anxiety, your fear, and your stress when it comes to learning English.
So Stephen Krashen says language acquisition does not require extensive use of conscious grammatical rules and does not require tedious drill.
So when you're learning a second language, memorization, just studying grammar and only those things, that's not going to help you learn the language.
And instead of learn, he uses the word acquisition.
