单集文稿 ...

  • Welcome to an a to z grammar lesson.

  • Today we're going to talk about something that can be kind of tricky, even for native speakers, which is the past perfect sense.

  • And Jack, the past perfect sense is something that, you know, we've always got students asking questions about because it's a bit strange, right?

  • Yeah.

  • And the past perfect is basically, it's when we're looking at actions that have happened in the past in relation to each other.

  • So what happened?

  • 1st, 2nd, or third?

  • Right.

  • And it also, it's one of those grammar points that you don't have to use.

  • Like, you could just say, first, I did this and second, I did this.

  • And it has the same meaning, but native speakers don't talk like that.

  • So we use the past person, and.

  • Having this, it's a better way to make longer compound sentences.

  • Now, for the grammar.

  • For it, it's very simple.

  • It's the have or has or had.

  • Actually, it's always had.

  • I had done something.

  • So it's that verb have has, but in the past tense.

  • So I had.
