11 分钟Welcome to the A to Z English podcast.
Today we have a special episode called am I the Jerk?
And before we start today's podcast, Sochil and I would like to define some vocabulary for you before we start.
So the question today is, am I the jerk for not buying a car for my stepdaughter and social.
What is a stepchild?
Like a stepdaughter or stepson?
So, a stepchild, be it your stepdaughter or stepson, is a child that's been, like, added to your family from another marriage.
So if you marry someone who's, who already has kids, then their kids become your step children.
Or if you already had kids from previous marriage or relationship and you marry someone new, your kids become that new person's stepchildren as well.
Exactly.
Exactly.
So they're, you know, a lot of parents treat their stepchildren just like they're real children, right?
Like they love them the same as a real father or mother, but they're not related by blood, as we say in English.
So by blood, blood relation means that they're not actually related by blood, but they're still children.
And so a lot of step parents treat their children like real children.
But in this case, we have am I the jerk for not buying a car for my stepdaughter?
So let's read this, and then we'll find out if this person is the jerk or not.
Okay.
Now, this person says, English is not my first language, which, that's fine, because for a lot of our listeners out there, English is not your first language.
The writer says, I'm child free, meaning this person has no children.
