Welcome to the A to Z English podcast.
My name is Jack, and I am one of the hosts of this podcast.
Today I have a solo episode, and in today's episode, I'm going to talk about the phrasal verbs pull up and push down.
So these two are kind of opposite opposites, but they're related, right?
Because you pull something up and then you can push it back down.
So let me give you an example of pull up.
First.
Pull up is to physically lift something or someone upward using force.
So you could pull someone up.
For example, if someone's trying to get out of swimming pool, you could take their hand and pull them up out of the water.
And so you're pulling somebody up.
You could pull something up, too.
When you're fishing and you catch a fish, you pull the fish up using the fishing rod and reel, and you hold the line and you pull up the fish.
You pull it out of the water and pull it up onto the boat.
For example, she pulled up the heavy suitcase and placed it in the car.
So you can a heavy suitcase, you would pull it up and put it into the car.
Another example of pull up is to bring up or display information.
