Welcome to the aid is English podcast.
My name is Jack, and I'm here with my co host, Sochil.
And today we are going to do a special kind of language tips episode where we have words in English that sound very similar, but actually they have very different meanings, and these can be very confusing for second language learners.
And so I thought we would just kind of unpack the vocabulary.
For each one, there are six pairs of words that all sound very similar, but have different meanings.
So our first pair is enemy versus anime, and enemy is enemy.
Anime is an I m e, and Sochl.
What is the difference between enemy and anime?
Well, pretty big difference here.
Enemy is someone like your arch nemesis, someone that you hate, like in a.
Like Batman and the Joker.
You know, the Joker is Batman's enemy.
Good.
And anime is actually japanese cartoons, as far as I'm concerned.
It's short for animation, which is a word in English.
Right.
But anime itself is just used to refer to japanese animation cartoons.
