In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack is joined by Agnieszka, Salimeh, and Ana Maria for a spooky Am I the Jerk? episode. Title: AITJ for Not Allowing Trick-or-Treaters in My Haunted House? Every Halloween, I (40M) transform my house into a haunted maze. I spend weeks decorating it with spooky props, animatronics, and fog machines to create a genuinely terrifying experience. It's become somewhat of a neighborhood attraction, and kids and adults alike look forward to visiting every year. This year, as usual, I went all out with my decorations, and my haunted house was scarier than ever. However, I added an extra element to the experience - live actors dressed as monsters who would jump out and startle the visitors. I thought it would make the haunted house even more thrilling. As the night went on, I noticed that some younger children, around 6-8 years old, were coming to my door with their parents, excited to go through the haunted house. Seeing their age and knowing how intense the experience could be, I made a snap decision to tell them, "I'm sorry, but this haunted house is too scary for kids your age. It's not recommended for children under 12. Maybe next year." The parents were upset, and one of them accused me of being a Halloween snob and ruining their kids' Halloween experience. They argued that it should be up to the parents to decide whether their children could handle it or not. Now, I'm questioning whether I was the jerk in this situation. Was I being overly cautious, or was I justified in not allowing young children to go through my extremely scary haunted house? AITJ? What do you think? Was the homeowner in this situation the jerk for not allowing younger kids to enter his extremely scary haunted house, or was he trying to ensure their safety and comfort?
