Dear Jack, dear J.
Welcome to the A to Z English podcast.
Today I have another episode of Dear Jack where listeners write in with their problems, and I do my best to give advice.
Remember, I am not a mental health professional.
I'm not a counselor.
I'm not a psychiatrist or a psychologist.
I'm just a guy who has some life experience, and I think I can help you with some of your less serious problems.
And here's one.
Dear Jack, I work in a small office, and there's a colleague who constantly microwaves fish for lunch.
The smell is overpowering and lingers in the break room for hours, making it uncomfortable for everyone.
I've tried dropping hints, but my colleague doesn't seem to get it.
How can I address this without creating an awkward situation at work?
Any advice on how to tackle the fishy situation would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, holding my breath at lunch.
Ooh, this is a good one.
This is a good one.
I've got a couple of possible solutions to your problem, and the first one I'm going to start with the more ethical one first.
Okay.
The most ethical one is find out if other people are bothered by this as well, because it's most likely it's not just you.
It's probably the majority of the office is tired of smelling this person's stinky fish sandwich every day.
