Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin, met to discuss strategy during World War II. 1863: President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed November 26 as a national Thanksgiving Day, setting the precedent for the modern holiday. 1783: The British evacuated New York City, their last military position in the United States, during the American Revolutionary War. 1977: The "Kelly Barnes Dam" in Georgia, USA, failed, resulting in the Toccoa Flood, causing 39 deaths. 1983: Brink's-MAT robbery: In London, 6,800 gold bars worth nearly £26 million were stolen from the Heathrow International Trading Estate. 2000: George W.
