Welcome to the A to Z English podcast.
My name is Jack, and today I have an am I the jerk solo episode.
It's been a while since I've done and am I the jerk?
And so I thought today it would be fun to do a solo am I the jerk episode?
So here's the situation.
You and your friend have been planning a weekend getaway for months.
Both of you are excited about the trip, and you've made various arrangements, including booking accommodation, planning activities.
However, a week before the trip, your friend has a family emergency and can no longer make it.
Now, here's the situation.
You have two options.
One option is to go on the trip alone and enjoy the planned activities as originally intended.
The other option is to cancel the trip altogether as it doesn't feel right to go without your friend, especially considering the circumstances.
Would you be the jerk if you chose to go on the trip alone, despite your friends unfortunate situation?
Or would it be understandable as you've already invested time and effort into planning the getaway?
All right, I'm going to answer this honestly.
From my perspective, you would be a very, very big jerk if you went on this trip because your friend had a family emergency.
And so that's totally out of your friend's control.
And your friend probably needs your support and your attention right now during this time.
Like, for example, if your friend's mother or father got sick or there was an accident or if there was a death in the family, you shouldn't be, like, on the beach sunbathing while your friend is going to a funeral.
