On December 8, 1991, the leaders of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine signed the Bella Veza Accords declaring the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
And on December 8, 2004, the San Francisco 49 ers retired football legend Jerry Rice's jersey number 80 during halftime of a game against the Seattle Seahawks.
