Dear Jack, welcome to the A to Z English podcast.
My name is Jack, and I am here with three of my good friends, Layla, May and Hendrick, and we are doing a Dear Jack episode, which is where listeners write in with their problems, and then usually I give advice to them.
But today I have brought three experts in language learning, because who better to ask than an actual language learner what it's like learning English and giving some advice to someone who would like to speak English as well as you three do.
So here is the question.
Dear Jack, I'm an ESL student facing difficulty in improving my speaking skills.
Despite practicing regularly, I feel hesitant to speak in class.
How can I overcome this fear and become more confident in expressing myself in English?
Thank you.
Shy speaker.
So his or her name is shy speaker.
So I'm going to start.
We'll go with Layla first, then May, then Hendrick.
So, Layla, what advice would you give to the student.
From my side?
I think for this person shouldn't be shy at all.
Just try to focus on that you want to speak.
For example, try to record yourself, talk to yourself, maybe in front of the mirror and record yourself and listen to yourself after that and try.
It's a good deal.
You can join WhatsApp group and send a voice notes every day to talk to other people.
And the best way, I suggest this person to join the Google Meet, that will be the best way to improve her or his speaking.
