Dear Jack, welcome to the A to Z English podcast.
My name is Jack, and I'm here with three of my good friends and wonderful students and teachers as well, Layla, May and Hendrik.
And what we're going to do today is an episode that I like to call Dear Jack episode.
And that's where students will write in with asking for advice.
And I try my best to give advice.
And I thought since this is a language learning topic here with this email, you guys are the perfect people to give advice to the students.
So here's the letter.
Dear Jack, I've been learning English for a while, and while I understand the grammar rules, I still find it challenging to comprehend native speakers due to their fast pace and colloquial expressions.
So like idioms and things like that, idiomatic expressions.
Any advice on how I can improve my listening skills and better understand spoken English?
Sincerely struggling listener.
And I'll start with Layla first.
Okay.
I would like to say for this writer, yeah, it's normal.
Don't understand the native speakers even when you can talk fluently, because they have their own speed and their own way to speak.
So that's normal.
Just listen to them.
Just try to understand how much you can understand.
It's okay.
And for about idioms, it's okay if you don't understand the idioms or maybe most of the idioms, because the most important that you can communicate with other people, they can understand you and you can understand them.
