Dear Jack, welcome to the A to Z English podcast.
My name is Jack, and today I have another episode of Dear Jack, which is where listeners write in with their problems.
And today we have a doozy.
A doozy means a really interesting problem.
I'm going to do my best to explain the situation to you as well, because some of the situations in here or the vocabulary might be a little bit difficult for our new learners of English.
So I will try to explain a little bit.
Dear Jack, I'm in a strange situation, and I need advice.
My roommate has a quirky hobby.
Quirky just means strange.
A strange hobby.
Collecting potato chips that look like famous people.
I'll read that sentence again.
My roommate has a quirky hobby, collecting potato chips that look like.
Like famous people.
Our place.
Place, meaning our apartment, is filled with crunchy versions of past american presidents and music stars.
One night, I got really hungry, and I ate the potato chip versions of Michael Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, and Justin Bieber.
Now I'm scared my roommate will find out and get really upset.
How do I tell him what happened without causing a big problem?
Thanks, worried and hungry, roomie.
