Welcome to the A to Z English podcast.
My name is Jack, and I'm here today with my partner social, and we are going to do an idioms episode for you.
And these are based on kind of travel social because, you know, a lot of people travel during the holiday season, so I thought we could do a couple of travel episodes.
And so now these are not exactly related to travel, but a couple of them might be.
The first one is to go the extra mile.
So what does it mean?
To go the extra mile.
Means to do more for someone or something than you normally would.
So let's say you wake up on Christmas morning and the whole place is done up.
The Christmas dinner is delicious, the presents are wrapped impeccably.
You got everything that you had on your Christmas list, and your parents really went the extra mile for you.
They really put in extra effort to make sure you got everything that you would possibly want.
Yeah, it's just putting in that extra effort towards something or for someone.
Exactly.
And that's the definition I have here.
To make a special effort or go above and beyond what is required.
So they could just do the normal thing and that would be enough.
But they really gave some extra effort to decorate your house, to make your favorite food, to wrap the presence perfectly.
And so to go the extra mile is to try to make it the most perfect experience that you can have.
