On December 30, 1972, the United States halted its heavy bombing campaign in North Vietnam, marking the end of Operation Linebacker two during the Vietnam War.
On December 30, 1993, Israel and the Vatican City established diplomatic relations.
On December 30, 2006, Saddam Hussein, the former president of Iraq, was executed by hanging.
On December 30, 2009, a nigerian man attempted to detonate a bomb on a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.
On December 30, 2013, China landed its first unmanned spacecraft, the Changi three lunar rover, on the moon.
And on December 30, 2014, AirAsia flight QZ 8501 en route from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore, crashed into the Java Sea, killing all 162 people on board.
