单集文稿 ...

  • Welcome to the A to Z English podcast.

  • My name is Jack, and I'm here with my co host Sochil.

  • And Sochil, today we're going to do a vocabulary spotlight episode, and the topic is eighties slang.

  • So I have a totally tubular episode for you today.

  • Do you know what that means?

  • Yes, totally tubular is like totally rad, totally awesome, right?

  • Yes, that's right.

  • Actually, I'm kind of thinking a lot of these are going to be pretty much the same meaning.

  • So totally tubular just means awesome or extremely cool.

  • Yeah, totally tubular.

  • What about radio?

  • I just used that, so that's funny.

  • Yeah, rad means awesome or cool.

  • A lot of these I know, because when I was growing up watching cartoons in the two thousands, I guess it was probably people from the eighties making these cartoons or from the seventies, and so they would include this in the cartoons I would watch.

  • So I'm like, kind of familiar with it because of that.

  • So, yeah, even though I watched cartoons in the two thousands, people who were kids and teens in the eighties were using their slang and the cartoons I watched, if that makes sense.

  • Yeah, you're probably watching like, teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or something like that.

  • Well, I was watching like, SpongeBob or like.

  • Yeah, things like that.

  • Yeah, SpongeBob would definitely be, the writers would definitely have grown up in the eighties.
