Fruitcakes are often considered bizarre due to their dense texture and mix of various fruits and nuts. Therefore, comparing someone or something to a fruitcake implies a high level of peculiarity. "Jumping out of the frying pan into the fire": This idiom means to go from a bad situation to an even worse one. It suggests making a decision or taking action that initially seems to improve the situation but ends up causing more problems. The imagery evokes the idea of escaping danger only to find oneself in a more perilous situation.
