Okay, good afternoon everyone and welcome to the LSE for today's event which forms part of our LSE Festival,
How to Save the Planet.
My name is Andrew Murray and I am the Dean of the LSE Law School
and I am the Chair and Moderator for today's debate.
So I'm very pleased to be here to welcome our speakers and to both our audiences in the room and online.
Today we will be debating whether AI will secure humanity's future.
So I will explain the format for today's debate
because all of you in the audience have a role to play in this, so do listen up.
We have two teams.
One arguing that AI will secure humanity's future and the other arguing that it won't.
Each speaker has five minutes to present their case and to persuade you to side with them.
We will turn it between the for and against.
You the audience are our judges and in a moment
I will ask you for a show of hands to see where you stand before we begin the debate.
I will then invite you to put aside your views and just listen to what you hear today.
After all of our speakers have put forward their case, there will be an opportunity for you to ask some questions
or make brief comments which the speakers will then take into consideration when they make their final points.
We will then come back to you, our audience, to give your final decision and we will announce the winners.
