  • I'm Georgina Godwin.

  • My guest today is an award-winning author and translator based in South Korea.

  • Winning the 1998 Yonsei Literature Prize for her short story The Head,

  • she came to international attention in 2022 with her collection of short stories, Cursed Bunny.

  • It was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize and made it onto several award shortlists.

  • Now she's back with a new collection, the Midnight Time Table.

  • It is a collection of short stories set in an unusual research facility.

  • The book is equal parts bone-chilling, wryly funny and deeply political.

  • It's wonderful for us to have a South Korean writer and translator in the studio with us here at Monaco.

  • We love everything South Korean and it's great to get the opportunity to talk to you.

  • You were born in Seoul.

  • Tell us about your early life.

  • I was born in Seoul.

  • My dad used to be a professor of dentistry.

  • My mother used to, they're both retired now, but my mother was a dentist.

  • And my dad had one-year exchange program in the US, so he took his whole family.

  • That's why I sound like this.
