单集简介 ...

The co-founder of Palestine Action has won a legal challenge to the home secretary’s decision to ban the group under anti-terrorism laws. Palestine Action was the first direct action protest group to be proscribed. The decision was widely condemned and was defied by a civil disobedience campaign, during which more than 2,000 people have been arrested. From July last year, being a member of – or showing support for – the group became an offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison. • This is The Guardian.

  • Do we really think history is going to look back at the sight of thousands of people,

  • including Grammys,

  • being arrested for holding placards, opposing genocide, and look back and think,

  • well, that was an episode to be proud of?

  • I think it's going to go down as a very shameful episode,

  • and I think it's quite obvious in the here and now.

  • The UK government's ban on a Palestinian campaign group under terrorism legislation has been found unlawful in a dramatic ruling by the High Court in London.

  • When a government applies the term, legally speaking, terrorism, to movements,

  • organisations and individuals which are clearly not terrorists, a red line has been crossed.

  • That is a red line where you cross into some degree of authoritarianism.

  • Judges at the High Court have ruled that the government's prescription of Palestine action as a terror group is unlawful.

  • From the Guardians Today in Focus, this is the latest with me, Lucy Hoff.

  • I'm joined by Owen Jones, Guardian columnist.

  • Thank you for being with us.

  • It's great to have you on the show.

  • Thanks for dialing in.

  • Great to see you.

  • Great to see you too.

  • So we're speaking on this pretty extraordinary day.
