  • Israel's cabinet has approved a series of measures to strengthen Israeli control in the occupied West Bank and weaken the powers of the Palestinian Authority.

  • The new measures would allow the Israeli government and settlers to more easily purchase real estate in the West Bank.

  • A cabinet minister who announced the decision said this would ensure land reserves for future Jewish settlement.

  • The new measures would also grant Israeli authorities power to carry out demolitions in Palestinian cities administered by the Palestinian Authority.

  • And Israel would have more control over two ancient religious sites.

  • Jordan and Egypt condemned the move and warned against Israeli annexation of territory where Palestinians want a sovereign state.

  • Federal and state authorities in Arizona are starting the second week of their search for the mother of today show host Savannah Guthrie.

  • NPR's Bill Chapel reports the Guthrie family says they've received a message from the people who took Nancy Guthrie from her home in Tucson.

  • There are multiple reports of ransom notes being sent to local media in Tucson.

  • One local TV station KGUN said they received a ransom note that demanded $6 million by Monday evening and that's later today.

  • Police have not publicly confirmed details about ransom in concrete terms,

  • but the FBI has been working with the local sheriff's department.

  • has said that while it's advising the Guthrie family in this case,

  • any decision about whether to pay a ransom or not is up to them.
