34 分钟you Hello and welcome to Meet the Writers.
I'm Georgina Godwin.
My guest today is an award-winning Scottish writer,
broadcaster and fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
He's written across journalism, memoir and fiction.
His first book was a guide to surviving your quarter-life crisis,
followed by the memoir Maggie and Me, and the novel You Will Be Safe Here.
His latest work, The Two Robots,
turns to a couple of Scottish artists whose love and work once lit up Soho.
Damien Barr, welcome to Meet the Writers.
Thank you, Georgina.
I want to start with you before we get on to the two robbets.
Let's talk about Damien and your childhood in Scotland, in Bells Hill.
Bells Hill is where I was born.
It's actually also where the writer Amonata Forna was born in the maternity hospital,
which is no more there.
So I grew up near the maternity hospital in a village called New York Hill,
which was a former Pitt Village...
within healing distance of what would soon be a former steel town within healing distance again of Glasgow,
so if you can imagine that degree of distance.
