I'm Chris Gilson, managing editor of the failing US Center's blog on US Politics and Policy, USAP.
At the end of October 2025, during a meeting in South Korea,
US President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping agreed to postpone China's export controls on rare Earths in exchange for US tower reductions on imports from China.
The deal was a culmination of a long-running trade dispute between the US and China,
which had been heightened in recent months by President Trump's aggressive rhetoric and increased tariffs.
To talk about the current state of US-China relations, I spoke to Scott Kennedy,
senior advisor and trustee chair in Chinese business and economics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies,
and the leading authority on Chinese economic policy and US-China commercial relations.
