单集文稿 ...

  • Hello and welcome to your English Fiver Day on the Elan podcast.

  • This is a short daily podcast for intermediate to advanced level learners who want to build natural English vocabulary through stories.

  • My name is Anna and this is Week 2, Day 5.

  • Today we shall recap and then complete chapter two where Gabriel discovers Liverpool.

  • Supporting materials for this lesson are available at www.joineelan.com forward slash plus plus.

  • So let's begin with the full chapter.

  • The second Gabriel set foot outside Lyme Street Station in the late morning,

  • a stranger smiled at him and said, You all right, Lat?

  • Gabriel was completely taken aback.

  • He couldn't remember the last time a stranger had greeted him so openly on the street.

  • People were walking past him, chatting and laughing as he stood there,

  • and the man pointed him towards the Albert Dock, insisting it was a must-see for every visitor.

  • Gabriel hadn't expected such a warm welcome.

  • Gabriel left his suitcase at a luggage storage facility.

  • Then, when he reached the water, Liverpool opened up before him.

  • The brick warehouses glowed a deep red in the afternoon light.

  • Seagulls hovered, hopefully above the cafes, and the breeze carried the smell of coffee and salt.

  • The place felt alive.

  • Artists were sketching by the railings, children were chasing pigeons,

  • and groups of friends were laughing loudly in the cold air.
