Contributor(s): Zainab Salbi | Climate change is not gender-neutral — not in its impact on women and girls, nor in the solutions women are leading. This lecture will share new research revealing how women’s leadership is providing new pathways to address the climate crisis. By centring their relationship with nature and its protection, they are bringing about new behaviour changes and economic models that are leading to long-term transformations within communities. Their actions are transformative, positioning humans and communities as part of nature, not actors upon it.

  • Welcome to the LSE Events podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.

  • Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.

  • Welcome to LSE for this hybrid event.

  • My name is Nyla Kabir and I'm Emeritus Professor at the I'm just lost my thread,

  • at the International Humanities Institute and the Department for International Development.

  • I'm very pleased to be introducing Zenab Salvi to both our online audience and to our audience here at the LSE.

  • Zenam is a humanitarian,

  • an author and a media host who has dedicated her life to women's rights and global freedom.

  • At the remarkable age of 23, she founded Women for Women International.

  • after a visit to Bosnia.

  • This was an organisation that has worked with women in conflict situations,

  • with over 4 in 60,000 women survivors of war.

  • Zanib stepped down from the leadership of Women for Women International,

  • and then she became engaged in writing and producing shows about women in the Middle East.

  • But I don't think she reduced the pace of her work,

  • because about eight or nine years ago, she fell extremely ill.

  • And I think she was looking at death in the face.

  • So I'm not going to dwell on that.

  • I'm going to dwell on the consequences of this life-changing experience.

  • And that is the role that nature played in her healing and her realization of the central role that nature plays in all our lives.
