  • Welcome back to the deep dive.

  • Today we are not just looking at a map.

  • We are looking at the cracks forming in the bedrock of that map.

  • We are stepping right into the geopolitical thick of it, January 2026.

  • We are.

  • And the picture of the world we're about to explore is, frankly, it's a little bit stark.

  • Stark is one word for it.

  • Lonely might be better one actually.

  • If you look at the sources we have today,

  • especially these middle powers in the great rivalry seeking a third way,

  • the world has become a very cold place for anyone who isn't a superpower.

  • To frame this for everyone listening, I want you to picture a royal court.

  • Something out of a period drama.

  • You've got the king sitting on the throne.

  • But in this version, the king has grown old.

  • He's grown cruel, he's mocking his courtiers, taunting them, putting up walls even though they rely on him for protection.

  • It's a powerful metaphor to start with.

  • And in this scenario as our source material describes it, the king is the United States in early 2026.

  • And those trembling courtiers.

  • Those are the mid-sized liberal democracies.
