Contributor(s): Professor Dani Rodrik | Fighting climate change, saving democracy, and eradicating poverty are urgent global challenges, yet the world’s leaders continue to pursue outdated policies that focus on one while worsening the trade offs between each of them. Join us for this talk by Dani Rodrik where he will talk about his new book, Shared Prosperity in a Fractured World, in which he shows how the nations of the world can achieve all three objectives. Dani Rodrik provides a bold new vision of globalisation, one in which we accelerate the green transition to achieve a sustainable planet, shore up the middle class to restore democracy’s foundations, and hasten economic revitalisation in the developing world to put an end to poverty.

  • Welcome to the LSE Events podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.

  • Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.

  • Good evening, everybody.

  • My name is Francesco Caselli.

  • I'm a professor of economics here at the LSE.

  • I just realized I left my notes somewhere, but...

  • I don't think I need notes to introduce Danny, so it'll be fine.

  • I think everybody knows here,

  • Danny Rodrik is one of the most influential and famous economists in the world right now.

  • He has written extremely important work on economic growth,

  • globalization, development, political economy,

  • and he's also been massively influential in the global debate about these problems.

  • DannyPG.Harvard, and he has written a new book called Share Prosperity in a Fractured World,

  • which is a book about how we get out of the horrible mess we have created,

  • and so it's a very much needed book.

  • A couple of logistical things.

  • There is a hashtag for this event, which is, I believe, LSE events.

  • There will be a Q&A after Dani's comments and there will be a book signing after the talk and the book's going to be available on sale outside and then the signing will take place here.

  • I think that's all I have and now with great pleasure and anticipation, I hand the talker to Dani.

  • Thank you.
