She insists that vacuum bags will save space and Gabriel decides to put his essentials in his day pack so he can reach them easily during the journey.

Squeeze in.
This is a phrasal verb.
and you can separate it so you could squeeze something in or squeeze in something.
And it means to fit something into a very small space.
You squeeze something in to that space.
