单集简介 ...

Today, Adam and Chris discuss the latest agreement between the Coalition of the Willing and the US to provide security guarantees for Ukraine as part of ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire with Russia. The talks in Paris saw the UK and France agree to put troops on the ground "in the event of a peace deal". Plus we look at why President Trump has his sights set on Greenland and whether he really might annex the island. Adam is joined by the Economist’s defence editor Shashank Joshi and Dr Gabriella Gricius, senior fellow at the Arctic Institute to discuss the strategic importance of Greenland to security in the Arctic. • Hello, Tuesday the 6th of January has been a big European security day.

  • It started off with a bunch of European leaders, including Kirstarmer,

  • issuing a very strongly worded repost to comments from the Trump administration about getting their hands on Greenland for the USA.

  • And then it ended with a news conference in Paris where...

  • Lots more European leaders, including Kier Starmer,

  • signed a deal about the security guarantees for Ukraine and what the UK and the European leaders would be willing to provide after there is a ceasefire.

  • A big if there.

  • So, two big things for me and Chris to get our teeth into in this episode of Newscast.

  • Hello, it's Adam in the newscast studio.

  • And it is Chris at Westminster.

  • We won't have the whole is it too late to say Happy New Year?

  • We'll just say Happy New Year.

  • Well, there we go.

  • We've done it.

  • There we go.

  • Thereby proving who's on what side of that argument.

  • Anyway, Chris.

  • I think we might have been on different sides, but anyway.

  • So much to get into today.

  • We'll do the Greenland story.
