In the last couple of days,
Israel has approved the recognition of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Israel's far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotridge said the decision was about blocking the establishment of a Palestinian state,
something the US had kept on the table in its October Gaza ceasefire deal.
Nevertheless, Israel is forging ahead with settlements, and according to the United Nations,
tensions in the occupied West Bank have been ramping up.

the UN says violent attacks on Palestinians by Jewish settlers have increased to the highest level in almost 20 years.
And the violence goes both ways.
Israeli civilians in the West Bank have also been attacked by Palestinians.
