  Since then, he's become a beloved traveller and presenter,

  taking us to the polls, the Sahara, the Himalayas, Brazil and beyond.

  He's also a meticulous diarist, with volumes covering half a century of his life.

  And now, he's just back from Venezuela,

  a country full of beauty and contradictions, which he's captured in his latest book.
