The premier of the Australian State of New South Wales, Chris Menz,
is calling for unity after two gunmen shot dead at least 11 people at a Jewish event that was being held at Sydney's Bondi Beach.
This attack was designed to target Sydney's Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah.
What should have been a night of peace and joy celebrated in that community with families and supporters has been shattered by this horrifying evil attack.
Australian authorities have declared the Bondi Beach shooting a terrorist attack.
In addition to the 11 dead,
officials say at least 29 others are confirmed wounded and that two of those hurt were police officers.
Officials say one gunman was fatally shot by police.
The second is in critical condition.
Local media are now reporting that after an overnight manhunt, Providence,
Rhode Island police have taken a person of interest into custody following yesterday's shooting at Brown University that left two people dead and nine others injured.
A shelter in place order has been lifted.
