And we're going to start today with the new US National Security Strategy that was published overnight.
A 33-page document largely confirms some of the big changes to US foreign policy under the Trump administration that we know about.
But since it shapes the global news agenda on a daily basis,
we thought it was important to devote a bit of time to it today.
Well, as for that daily impact on the program,
we'll be hearing about the consequences of the US focusing on security in its backyard.
What some say is an updated version of the 19th century Monroe doctrine,
which said that the US would protect its sphere of influence in the Americas and about the consequences of Europe being urged to take primary responsibility for its own defense.
In the last couple of hours,
Germany's become the latest European country to back reintroducing a form of conscription.
We'll hear later how that vote in the German parliament is going down with some of those young people who might be affected by it.
Let's start
though with the strategy itself and we can speak to someone Who's in a good position to help us understand the Trump administration's thinking?
That's because this strategy is predicated very much on the idea of America First.
