单集文稿 ...

  • Hello and welcome to the English Like a Nature podcast.

  • My name is Anna and you're listening to Week 46, Day 5 of your English Fiver Day, the second season.

  • Today is Friday and that means that we are going to be listening to a story.

  • A story that brings together all the vocabulary we've been looking at this week.

  • Now if you haven't heard all of those previous episodes then don't worry.

  • This story will still be useful as a listening exercise but I must warn you this is a story based on true events and it's a little bit gory.

  • It deals with an injury so If you're feeling a little squeamish, if you're eating breakfast,

  • lunch or dinner, and this is not your thing, then now is the time to skip to a different episode.

  • It's not going to be that bad, it's not horrific,

  • but it's just good for me to give you a little warning in case you are feeling a little delicate this morning.

  • Right, without further ado, let me introduce today's story.

  • Respect the door.

  • I bet you're wondering how I lost my arm.

  • Most people assume it was something dramatic, a shark attack,

  • an explosion in the engine room, or maybe some heroic rescue gone wrong.

  • The truth, though, is far less glamorous.

  • It wasn't a shark or a fire or a storm at sea.

  • It was a door.

  • A watertight door, to be precise.

  • And believe me, that thing was every bit as unforgiving as the ocean itself.
