Capitol is expected to appear in federal court today in Washington, D.C.
The arrest came after a long-running federal investigation.
NPR's Ryan Lucas reports the bombs were planted the night before the January 6th attack on the Capitol but did not explode.
The suspect in custody is 30-year-old Brian Cole Jr.
He was arrested in Woodbridge, Virginia, south of Washington, D.C.
The FBI made the arrest after a nearly five-year investigation that had seemed to have gone cold.
Top Justice Department officials, including FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino,
touted the arrest at a news conference Thursday.
Folks, you're not going to walk into our capital city.

Officials say a new team at the FBI took a fresh look at all the evidence collected in the case and generated new leads that ultimately led to Cole's arrest.
Cole is expected to appear in federal court in D.C.
