In office, US President Donald Trump has shown little empathy for Africa.
He's promoted unsubstantiated claims of white genocide in South Africa.
Seven of the 12 countries whose citizens are banned from visiting the United States are African.
But his remarks about Somalis living in the US, the majority of whom were born in America,
suggested not just lack of empathy, but outright hostility.
I don't want them in our country, I'll be honest with you.
Somebody would say, oh, that's not politically correct.
I don't care.
I don't want them in our country.
Their country is no good for a reason.
Their country stinks, and we don't want them in our country.
I can say that about other countries, too.
I can say it about other countries, too.
We don't want them to help.
We have to rebuild our country.
You know, our country is at a tipping point.
