Hello, we're recording this episode of newscast on Monday, which means it's budget Eve Eve,
although it's felt like budget Eve Eve for many days now,
although we are nearly there on Wednesday at half past 12.
Rachel Reeves, the chancellor will give her budget.
to the House of Commons and we will be giving you a live streamed episode of this very podcast which we will do on Wednesday tea time at 6.30 and you will be able to listen to it,
did I mention live,
on BBC Sounds and you will also be able to watch us on the BBC News channel so on your TV or on iPlayer and that is all happening on Wednesday evening at 6.30 and depending on when you have your tea you could even eat it along with us.
But now, we're going to have a classic episode of Newscast, recorded on Monday at 5pm.
Hello,
it's Adam in the newscast studio in Salford and the first half of this episode of newscast is going to be about the immense amount of diplomatic activity around Ukraine and Russia over the last few days.
At the end of last week,
we saw the emergence of this US 28-point peace plan to end the war between Russia and Ukraine,
which many people say bore all the fingerprints of Russia.
Then we saw a very dramatic address to the Ukrainian people by Volodymyr Zelensky at the end of last week.
Then there was a whole load of European leaders meeting on the fringes of the G20 summit in South Africa working out how to respond then over the weekend there were meetings between the US and Ukraine in Geneva in Switzerland and all throughout this process we saw what appeared to be or hints of or briefings that there had been a watering down of this plan which had been so initially Unwelcome for the Ukrainians.
So, where have we got to and what can we work out about what might be happening next?
Two people who can help us brainstorm that are with us now.
James Landale is the BBC's diplomatic correspondent and he's back from Kiev to sit in the newscast studio in London.
Hi, James.
Hello, Adam.
