单集文稿 ...

  • Paul, how are you coping after almost a year of President Trump?

  • I'm not in despair.

  • A year ago I feared I might be.

  • The economy is troubled, but not a disaster area.

  • So it's kind of a weird state of suspension.

  • I'm Martin Wolf, chief economics commentator at The Financial Times.

  • And I'm Paul Krugman,

  • professor at the City University of New York and now writer of a regular, sub-stack newsletter.

  • One of the things that I feel very strongly looking at what's been going on is China's winning.

  • Basically,

  • Trump has sort of made every country in the world I know of think China is more reliable than the United States.

  • He's weakening all America's soft and other forms of power.

  • It's almost as if China designed all this.

  • Yeah, if you wanted to make the case that he really is the mentor in Canada,

  • that the facts seem to support it.

  • He's enormously weakened America on basically everything that has been a source of our strength.

  • from the scientific base to the universities, to our credibility as a negotiating partner.

  • I mean, America looks really isolated.

  • Nobody has said, ah, this is a great idea.

  • We should do this too.
