单集简介 ...

Today, the home secretary Shabana Mahmood announced sweeping changes to the UK's asylum policy, including plans to return asylum seekers to their home country if it is deemed safe. Under the new plans, most people will have to wait 20 years to apply for settled status, and the deportation process will be sped up for failed cases, including for families with children. The reforms have recieved tentative support from the oppostion but will likely face resistance closer to home, with a number of Labour MPs publicly criticising them. Adam and Chris break down the politics and director of the Migration Observatory Madeleine Sumption joins Adam to dive deep into the white paper. You can now listen to Newscast on a smart speaker. • So Adam, it's 11 o'clock at night as we record newscasts.

  • But hey, you're used to this kind of timekeeping these days.

  • Yeah, I only want to do podcasts at strange times, antisocial times.

  • Don't say that.

  • Don't say that.

  • That's just that's just guaranteed it, hasn't it, for the next the next few years.

  • How are you?

  • Are you are you recovered?

  • Yeah, I was fine, actually.

  • So I had two snoozes on Friday afternoon and then a big long sleep on Friday night into Saturday morning.

  • And I was fine.

  • I had enough energy to build a bookcase and a wardrobe.

  • Blimey, I don't have enough energy for that, even when I've slept perfectly for a month.

  • That's because you do 25 hours a day every day.

  • Well, there is that.

  • So what was the low point of the whole 25 hours?

  • When did you think, oh, you know, it's a bit...

  • Not to sound like a politician.

  • There were no low points or only high points.

  • Do you know what it was?
