Hello, this is Health Check from the BBC.
I'm Claudia Hammond here with the latest on what's happening in the world of health.
In a moment, the country that has lost the Americas, their measles-free status.
And it might not be the first place you think of.
And to help me today, I have Vanessa Rapier, who is a consultant in Genito urinary health,
running her own clinic in Accra, in Ghana, and working at Bart's Health.
NHS Trust in London.
You sound very busy but welcome to the health check studio for the first time.
Thank you, lovely to be here.
And what do you have for us today?
So a number of things but one of the things we're going to be talking about is how talking many languages may have an effect on your brain health.
Yeah, interesting one that one.
And from Kenya testing helmets to protect motorcycle taxes or border-border drivers from brain injuries.
Plus the proposal from some politicians in France that doctors could prescribe working from home for people who are sick.
I'll be interested to hear what you make of that one Vanessa.
But we are starting with measles.
Earlier this week the Pan American Health Organization announced that the Americas has lost its verification as a region free from measles transmission.
Now this was the only region in the world to have measles free status and that status means you can still have isolated cases but there's no continuous spread.
across an area for at least 12 months.
So Vanessa, what's happened in the Americas to lose them their measles-free status?
